Rise Above Racism - RAMMFIT

Make no mistake. Racism exists.

.

It's a sad fact of life and I truly believe it will always be around. I guess for many reasons we are taught to judge people on the colour of their skin or the country they were born in. Even in today's world I personally know people who don't like a particular race, based on what they hear and see on TV or what their parents have taught them.

.

Maybe some people have had a bad experience with someone from a particular background. Fair enough too. It's hard to forgive and forget and I'm sure it would leave a bad taste in your mouth. Maybe it's a case of fear of the unknown. They feel threatened by someone for some reason and rather than getting to know that person so as to gain a better understanding of their journey in life, they find it easier to judge.

.

I used to work in the construction industry. On big construction sites in Brisbane city, there are a lot of Korean tilers and they get it rough from a lot of people on site. They're probably the hardest workers onsite too which is one reason so many people feel threatened I guess. Instead of judging them and joining in with the rest of the knuckle heads hanging shit on them all day, I used to take the time to get to know the ones I would see regularly. I knew that we would have one thing in common and that would be my conversation starter. Martial arts. It turns out, most of them if not all, are 3rd, 4th or 5th degree black belts in the art of Tae Kwon Do. So I would build trust and rapport by talking their talk and finding out more about heir martial arts journey. I met some amazing people on those sites and I'm sure being a friendly face in Australia, I made their day a little bit brighter by being kind.

If you're on the receiving end of racism like I was as a young man growing up, may I give you a few tips on how to overcome racism and rise up. The first thing is you can't change who you are. You are unique and I suggest you embrace that because most people don't know how to embrace their uniqueness. So many people either don't know who they are or if they do, they wish they were someone else. It takes courage to look in the mirror and like what you see.

.

The second and most important tip I can give you is to accept it exists and move on. Walking around with a chip on your shoulder, thinking everyone is racist, is not how you deal with racism. You need to smile more and live everyday with a positive mental attitude because a man with a positive mental attitude, no matter where they come from or what the colour of their skin is, is irresistible. Live with passion and purpose. Have direction because the world stands aside and makes room for a man who knows where he is going. Live life with a can do attitude, think big and wish people well who don't like you based on the colour of your skin. Wish them well and move on to where you're celebrated.

.

Instead of playing the victim like I did up until my late twenties, change the attitude and choose to see the world in a different light. When you lift your head up, put your shoulders back and have a good solid posture, you're half way to looking like a man who knows where he is going and not a victim of your circumstance. Perception is everything. Sure, you're going to attract haters, that's life, but the important thing is, the right people see you and would like to get to know you. When you change your attitude the world responds accordingly. Embrace your uniqueness. Be proud of your heritage and always live with a positive mental attitude. Do this and you cannot lose in life.

 Keep winning men!

Lock and load, you got this.
